Australia’s largest provider of investments bonds and education savings plans, Lifeplan, today announced it will close its travel business—Lifeplan Travel.
The planned closure is expected to be completed by year end with all current travel bookings to be honoured.
Matt Walsh, Head of Lifeplan, said the decision to close the travel business was due to the provision of travel bookings not being part of Australian Unity’s core business.
“Australian Unity undertook a review of the Lifeplan Travel business in November last year and determined that the Group’s future plans and resources would be better used by focussing on core business areas—such as financial services, health care and aged care–to better meet the needs of our members and customers,” Mr Walsh said.
“Lifeplan Travel will commence a phased closure to ensure that all existing bookings are honoured and there are no disruptions to customers’ current travel plans.
“Our travel staff will continue to support Lifeplan Travel clients, although they will no longer be taking any new bookings. Existing travel customers are encouraged to call Lifeplan Travel 1300 13 7464 should they have any questions relating to their bookings,” he said.
Mr Walsh advised that the closure of the Lifeplan Travel business would have no impact on other Lifeplan businesses.
“There are no plans to close any other businesses within the Lifeplan business,” he said.
The Lifeplan Travel business has been part of the Australian Unity Group since August 2009 when Lifeplan Friendly Society and Australian Unity merged.
Lifeplan Travel customers wanting to make future bookings can contact Travelscene on 13 TRAVEL (13 872835) or their local travel agent.
