Australian Unity Foundation

Australian Unity has a proud history of working with Australians to improve their wellbeing.

Continuing in this tradition, Australian Unity established the Australian Unity Foundation in 2006 to allow Australian Unity, staff and members to continue to support worthwhile community activities.

Each year, the Foundation supports community groups that work to foster happy and safe environments for people to reach their full potential.

Since its establishment the Foundation has distributed more than $760,000 to community groups across Australia. For more information on the projects we’ve helped fund, please click here.

Please note that the Foundation does not have the capacity to fund sponsorship requests, general donations or ongoing funds for existing programs.

 Australian Unity Heritage Fellowship

Australian Unity’s antecedent organisations received a number of bequests from members for the purposes of supporting education initiatives of the organisations’ members.  One of these was the Greeves Scholarship, introduced by Manchester Unity in Victoria in 1872. Much of these funds have been distributed in small amounts over the decades to support the secondary or tertiary education of successful applicants.

Recognising this heritage, in 2010, the Australian Unity Limited board decided to create annual Australian Unity Heritage Fellowships to assist individuals undertaking post-graduate research.  The Australian Unity Limited board has delegated the Australian Unity Foundation to approve applications for the grants.  It is expected that these grants will be in the order of $50,000, including GST where relevant, each.

Funded research will seek to propose solutions to the challenges facing Australia’s ageing population and the rise of chronic disease or investigate ways to improve community wellbeing.

Applications for the 2011 Australian Unity Heritage Fellowship close at 5:00 pm, Friday 29 July 2011.  Applicants will be notified of the outcome by Monday 31 October 2011.
